The Environmental and Occupational Health Course for Family Medicine Residents and Primary Health Care Physicians 10-21 March 2012

The Environmental and Occupational Health Course for Family Medicine Residents and Primary Health Care Physicians will start this year on 10th March 2012. This training is an annual training course and last for two weeks. The course is accredited and the participants are entitled to claim 21 points from Oman Medical Specialty Board. This course is one of our strategies to integrate the environmental and occupational health practice in primary health care. It will help to equip the participants to integrate occupational medicine into their clinical practices.
This course uses the knowledge and practical skills to provide the participants with the essential skills in the field of environmental and occupational health. The main objectives of this course are:
1- Understanding the important elements in environmental and occupational health program in Ministry of Health.
2- Understanding basic concepts of occupational medicine and its main principles.
3- Building up the following diagnostic skills:
a. Ability to perform an occupational history
b. Recognition and early detection of the common illnesses that may have an occupational cause
c. Management of common workplace-related health care problems
d. Evaluation and management of Patient With Chemical Exposure
e. Ergonomics and its implication
f. Principle of Toxicology
The curriculum covers the following aspects:
1- Occupational Hygiene
2- Occupational medicine
3- Ergonomics
4- Environmental health
5- Basic principle of toxicology
