Introduction
Objectives
The overall objective is to introduce and discuss the environmental factors which may pose risk to the health of the workers and their preventing strategies
Detailed Objectives
To acquaint the attendees and participants with concepts, sources and impacts of various environmental health influences in different work settings, as well as the necessary prevention and control strategies, procedures and tools, emphasizing the following:
- Diverse environmental health threats might be encountered at the workplaces (indoor and outdoor),
- Environmental and occupational health services in place at national, local and enterprise/ facility levels,
- Prevention and control strategies, procedures and tools,
- Monitoring and auditing procedures,
- Legislative aspects of environmental and occupational health services.
Learning Objective
By the end of the workshop, the attendees/ participants should:
- Identify the Omani National Plan of Action on Environmental/ Occupational Health Services (opportunities, risks, programs, activities, etc.)
- Know the nature of various environmental health hazards which may pose risk to workers in various economic activities.
- Be acquainted with various monitoring and auditing procedures to be implemented through occupational health care activities provided.
- Know the prevention and control strategies and procedures.
- Be able to effectively implement and evaluate the required environmental health services.

- Occupational heath personnel from the Ministries of Health, Environment, Industries, Labour and Local Governments;
- Municipalities and local governments;
- Social security department,
- UN agencies,
- NGOs (local and international);
- Industries (large and small);
- Representatives from the social welfare, chambers of commerce, etc.; and
- WHO Consultant.
Methodology
- Presentations including PowerPoint Presentations, Movies, Video-clips
- Hand- outs
- Group Discussions as well as individual and group exercises
- Field Visit including use of Checklists, Walk- through Auditing, etc.
- Evaluation by the workshop attendees/ participants
Duration
21 hours (Excluding breaks and lunches) distributed on 3 days
Language
Arabic, with the possibility of using English technical terminology (with suggested Arabic translation)
Material
- Main documents concentrating on main themes/ messages of the workshop
- Background material covering some technical details
Both types of material will be jointly prepared by the WHO Representative in Oman, Omani Occupational Health Services' representative/s, and the WHO Consultant.
The workshop main material/ documents will be prepared on Word and PowerPoint formats. However, the background detailed materials could by on either Word format or PDF (= Portable Document Format, acrobat).
